Fisher College, St. Clair College Win CECC East Regional Tournaments, Earn Bids to CECC May Madness 2025

Stamford, CT – March 24, 2025 – Fisher College and St. Clair College have earned bids to play in the Collegiate Esports Commissioner’s Cup (CECC) May Madness by winning their respective game titles in this year’s CECC East regional tournament.

CECC May Madness, established in 2022, gives 84 teams in four different game titles (Overwatch 2, Rocket League, Valorant, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate) and 12 players in Street Fighter 6, a chance to face other schools from across North America and one team or player in each game are crowned as national champions.

The East regional was a two-day online tournament from Feb. 22-23 for eight teams in four competitions - Overwatch 2, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Valorant. All the teams in this tournament were the top eight in their respective games after competing in the CECC East Region open tournament, available to all teams in Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Vermont, District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Delaware, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. It was also open to teams in the Canadian Provinces of New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edwards Island, Nova Scotia, and NewFoundland.

Fisher College won three of four game titles for the region. The Rocket League team defeated Stockton University in a 4-1 series, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team defeated Stony Brook University in a 3-0 series sweep, and the Overwatch 2 team defeated St. Clair College in a 3-1 series.

“We are excited to be returning to Texas with a handful of our students,” said Aaron Colaiacomo, assistant director of esports at Fisher College. “It has been a pleasure to be a part of the CECC events each year. For the students, winning these events always leads to a sense of pride and accomplishment after working tirelessly all year to compete for various championships.”

St. Clair College, the defending CECC May Madness Champions in Valorant, would earn the school’s only bid thus far to this year’s CECC May Madness by only dropping one map through the entire weekend and defeating No. 2 seed Fisher College’s Navy team in a 2-1 series.

“We are thrilled to defend our title and experience Texas once again,” said Youssef Daghache, head coach for the Valorant team at St. Clair. “I was a player when I won the event last year but I feel like as a coach I’ll be 10-times more stressed seeing everything from a third person perspective. To win it as a player and coach would allow me to retire happily, but all jokes aside it would be a testament of hard work and resilience of the pressure of being defending champs.”

The two schools have earned bids as top four seeds in their respective games at CECC May Madness 2025, set to take place May 2-4 at Esports Stadium Arlington in Texas, renowned as the largest in-person scholastic esports event in North America. The 2024 event attracted over 4 million views and 4,100 attendees, and the upcoming 2025 event marks the fifth year of CECC's celebration of collegiate esports excellence.
