University of Pittsburgh Wins Atlantic Coast Esports Conference Rocket League Tournament, Program’s First Bid to CECC May Madness

Stamford, CT – April 7, 2025 – The Atlantic Coast Esports Conference (ECAC) held the conference’s second Rocket League tournament that earned a bid directly into the Collegiate Esports Commissioner’s Cup (CECC) May Madness 2025 tournament.

CECC May Madness, established in 2022, gives 84 teams in four different game titles (Overwatch 2, Rocket League, Valorant, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate) and 12 players in Street Fighter 6, a chance to face other schools from across North America and one team or player in each game are crowned as national champions.

The ACEC Qualifier was a one-day online tournament on Mar. 29 that had five schools participating, including Clemson University, the University of Notre Dame, the University of Pittsburgh, Syracuse University, and Florida State University.

The tournament started with the teams playing a single round robin. Pitt went 3-1 in their four-game schedule, only losing to Florida State in a 3-1 series. In the semifinals of the top-4 playoff bracket, Pitt, going in as the No. 1 seed, defeated Florida State in a 4-1 series, and then defeated No. 3 seed Clemson in a 4-3 series to win the ACEC Qualifier tournament.

With the victory, Pitt earned their bid to CECC May Madness 2025, set to take place May 2-4 at Esports Stadium Arlington in Texas, renowned as the largest in-person scholastic esports event in North America. The 2024 event attracted over 4 million views and 4,100 attendees, and the upcoming 2025 event marks the fifth year of CECC's celebration of collegiate esports excellence.
